Joint OECD-Private Sector Workshop to explore efforts to implement the Guidelines (Berlin, March, 2001)
Notes:
Guidelines were developed to ensure consumers are afforded transparent and effective protection whatever the medium of commerce
Implementation efforts have included
- translating the Guidelines
- are available in English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, and Spanish
- developing web sites and information gateways for consumers and consumer associations, business and fellow governments to have access to important consumer protection information
- holding roundtables to discuss and educate businesses about providing effective consumer protection
- developing codes of conduct
- developing ADR mechanisms
- adopting laws were necessary
Berlin workshop will provide opportunity to examine these implementation efforts and to talk about additional efforts that might be necessary
