Speaker Biographies

Anita Ramasastry

Professor and Associate Director, Center for Law, Commerce & Technology
University of Washington School of Law, USA

Anita Ramasastry is the Associate Director of the Center for Law, Commerce & Technology and an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle. She joined the faculty in 1996. Her research and teaching interests include law and technology, international commercial law and banking and payment systems. Ramasastry is the reporter for the Uniform Money Services Act, an act that governs the licensing and regulation of non-bank issuers of e-money and stored value.

In 1999, Ramasastry was a Visiting Fellow at the British Financial Services Authority and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies at Queen Mary Westfield College University of London. She received an Atlantic Fellowship in Public Policy from the British Government to undertake research on the financial services reform in the UK. In 1998, she served as a senior attorney and advisor to the Claims Resolution Tribunal for Dormant Accounts in Switzerland.

Prior to joining the University of Washington, Ramasastry was a staff attorney at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. She has also worked as an attorney for the international law firm of White & Case in Budapest, Hungary and as an assistant professor of law at the Central European University in Budapest.

Ramasastry received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, an M.A. from the University of Sydney and a B.A. from Harvard College.
