Elizabeth deGrazia Blumenfeld is an attorney with BBBOnLine, Inc., a subsidiary of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, where she serves as Project Director overseeing the development of the Internet's first Code of Online Business Practices. This self-regulatory Code will offer guidance to businesses on ethical e-commerce business practices and will cover issues such as advertising, disclosure of terms of sale, notice of costs, system security and other consumer protection issues.
Ms. Blumenfeld also serves as Co-Reporter for the American Bar Association's "Transnational Issues in Cyberspace: A Project on the Law Relating to Jurisdiction." In this capacity, she helps direct and codify the ABA'S multilateral effort to analyze jurisdictional problems that impact global electronic commerce. Additionally, Ms. Blumenfeld co-chairs the Internet Law Subcommittee of the ABA Business Section's Cyberspace Law Committee and is an Advisory Board Member of BNA's Electronic Information Policy and Law Report.
Prior to joining BBBOnLine, Ms. Blumenfeld was Deputy Director for Legal and Brand Policy at America Online, Inc., where she developed AOL's legal policies for its various divisions. Her previous legal experience includes working as an attorney for the Washington Post newspaper and clerking for U.S. District Judge Harold H. Greene in Washington, D.C. Ms. Blumenfeld graduated from Yale Law School and received her BA, junior Phi Beta Kappa, from The University of Chicago.
Ms. Blumenfeld is a frequent speaker at conferences on a wide variety of cyberspace matters, including consumer protection, privacy, intellectual property, advertising and other e-commerce issues and has published articles about Internet privacy and publisher liability and has co-authored a book on web-linking agreements.
