Azman bin Othman Luk is the partner in charge of the Technology & Intellectual Property Department of the Malaysian law firm, Chooi & Co. Prior to the setting up of the TIP Department in 1998, Azman advised clients on telecommunications licensing and investment in Malaysia as a partner in the firm's Corporate & Commercial Department.
Azman regularly advises clients on matters such as multimedia and communications regulation, e-commerce issues, and investment in the Malaysian Multimedia Super Corridor. His scope of work also includes drafting and reviewing IT-related agreements and licences for both foreign and local clients. Due to his experience in the corporate field, he also regularly advises clients on aspects of their business outside the IT and IP spheres, for example, on start-up issues, and dealing with regulatory authorities such as the Malaysian Foreign Investment Committee.
Azman frequently conducts seminars for the firm's clients on legal aspects of e-commerce, and recently presented a paper on Emerging Legal Issues in E-Commerce: The Malaysian Experience at the International Telecommunications Law Conference, Austria, hosted by the Centre for International Legal Studies. He is the co-author of the Malaysian chapter in the Freshfields Guide To E-Business in Asia published by Asia Law & Practice.
Azman is also a registered trade mark agent, and advises clients both foreign and local, on matters pertaining to trade mark registration, passing off and domain name disputes. He is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association, and heads its Copyright Sub-Committee.
