Finally, to realize the benefits of electronic commerce, through our connectedness agenda, we are fostering the rapid uptake of electronic commerce by Canadians. The Government of Canada is committed to providing its services on-line. And to provide secure transactions, a Public Key Infrastructure policy framework was announced in the spring of 1999.
By adopting and using electronic commerce applications -- by becoming a model user itself -- the Canadian government is demonstrating to citizens and businesses alike that e-com is secure, convenient and cost-effective.
