To clarify the rules of the marketplace:
- Canada is committed to the principle of tax neutrality between the paper and the digital world, focusing on four key issues: compliance, collection of consumption taxes, international co-operation, and using the Internet to improve tax services to citizens and business;
- legislation is in the House (also part of Bill C-54) which would recognise electronic evidence and signatures in law; and
- we are working aggressively on developing an intellectual property regime for the digital economy.
