Notes:
Our international work is based on a clear national agenda for e-com, an agenda which has four elements:
- Building Trust in the Digital Marketplace -- ensuring that the frameworks and safeguards which provide confidence in the physical marketplace instill equivalent confidence in the digital marketplace, for example with respect to security, privacy and consumer redress;
- Clarifying Marketplace Rules -- ensuring that the legal and commercial frameworks for business transactions in the physical and electronic worlds are equivalent, and ensuring that any new rules or changes to existing rules are clear, transparent and predictable;
- Strengthening the Information Infrastructure -- promoting the development of high-speed networks, Internet governance and the standards which will ensure the interoperability and adaptability of the Internet; and
- Realizing the Benefits -- realizing the full social and economic potential of global electronic commerce and the broader movement towards a global information society by addressing the needs of business, including SMEs, organizations and consumers in developing and developed countries.
