Nigel J. Hickson

DTI

Nigel Hickson was born, brought up and educated in Hertfordshire in England before going to the City University in London in 1976 to study Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He joined the DTI in 1982 and worked in a section responsible for export controls on high technology goods (including encryption). After a spell in financial services regulation he was appointed to head a team working on commercial information security and information technology standards. His current duties include the development of UK legislation on electronic signatures and encryption, negotiating the EU directive on electronic signatures, the introduction of an accredited certification scheme for BS 7799 (the information security management standard) and the review of the standard. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
