Janet Henderson is Rights and Public Policy Manager for the Internet and
Multimedia Services Division of British Telecom. She studied English and
French law at the universities of Birmingham and Limoges and after
qualifying as a solicitor in 1992 worked in the media division of a large
city law firm. After a secondment as sole in-house lawyer to Time Warner
Interactive she joined BT in January 1996 to develop and coordinate the
public policy, regulatory and IPR strategy for its Internet & Multimedia
Services division, covering a wide range of issues including copyright and
content regulation. She is on the Council of ISPA (Internet Service
Providers Association) and chairs the ISPA legal forum. She also sits on
the Policy Board of the Internet Watch Foundation, the UK self-regulatory
body for Internet Content. Most recently she has been heavily involved in
the European debate on copyright and liability in the online environment and
is currently developing a self-regulatory initiative called RightsWatch.
