Detlef Eckert

Since 1988, Dr. Eckert has worked for the European Commission in Brussels in a variety of roles. For the past five years, he has served as Adviser/Head of Unit or Head of Unit for DGXIII, with responsibility for planning new policy initiatives in the area of the information society, telecommunications and e-commerce, including competition cases in telecommunications and new media. Earlier EC activities included preparatory and conceptual work regarding the information society (e.g. Bangemann Report, Action Plan, G7 Conference, Information Society Forum) as well as telecom policy, including preparation of Telecom Council meetings. Dr. Eckert has a Doctorate in Economic Sciences and a University Degree in Economics from the University of Seigen, Germany.
